Almost all barcode scanners work as a keyboard. Which means that instead of typing in the numbers of the barcode with a keyboard it types it in when reading the barcode. So for the software its the same as you type in the numbers via the keyboard.
So if this barcode scanner is an Keyboard Emulator (Like most) than the software will receive the codes the same way as if you would type it in from the keyboard.
It does sound a little bit expensive for a simple scanner.
