period to apply payment

Question

It would be useful to have feature that sets on account specific what period a payment should be applied to by default. I.e. We have accounts sometimes that have old balances, but want current payments to apply to this year while they slowly pay down old balances. This happens pretty often, yet the secty applying the payment is not aware and uses auto apply which defaults to first open balance.

in the payments screen there is a column called period (unhidden columns) if you enter for what period you want the payment to apply it will do that so if someone still owes for 2015 a balance and is paying for 2016 just enter the period you want the payment to apply to.

Make a date addl info called Apply Payments After, we will add to the software that if someone has this additional info it will start the applying auto by after that date.

yes, i think this would be perfect, so that teh Auto Apply feature on such account would only apply to any charge after that date,

Tried, didn't seem to work. Am I missing anything? Entered the date as 09/01/2014, reapplied payment, was applied to earliest open charge of 2013
