is there anywhere one can put in salutations so you can pick that field when you do a merge?

The systems combines the salutations entered by name. So please give more detailed info on what you are trying to do.

if someone's name if Robert and the salutation that the fund raiser uses for letters is Rob, or name is Norman and salutation should be Nissim, is there anywhere this can be put into a field in JL so that it can be picked in merge letters

We enter the salutations in "Additional info." and we pull it in mail merge from there, because the same person can be called different names by different honorees like in business he is called Sam his friends call him Shmuel and his family calls him shmuli and in additional info you can enter it for each salutation different, and this works great for us.

We would need this feature in receipts.  Many people are listed with their known name e.g. Yaakov but need their legal name is e.g. Jacob.  We now have to add a name on bottom and mark the "exclude" box next to it.
