Alert Parent regarding To-do-list / Calendar tasks and appointments

Currently, if I enter an appointment as a to-do in a parent's account, I can choose to alert myself or other users regarding this appointment, including when the reminder should come up (fifteen minutes before, etc.).

Can you add an option for the system to alert the parent via sms or email about the appointment/task? For example, let's say I put an appointment into a parent's account for 1:00 on Tuesday. I can set up that a reminder should pop up the day before to remind me about the appointment. But I also want a reminder to be texted to the parent one day before his appointment and 1/2 hour before his appointment. It would be helpful if this feature can be in the appointments window itself, but it that's too complicated, it will also be good if it could be done in the alerts tab (similar to alerts for declined credit cards). 

Such a feature can be extremely useful for applicant interviews, tuition meetings, or even follow up on forms due (if they were entered as tasks).
